Greece – Serbia Fight at Acropolis Tournament

One of the most disgusting acts of sportsmanship by basketball players I’ve ever seen.

In a warmup to the FIBA tournament, Greece and Serbia were facing off in the Acropolis tournament, when a fight broke out.

At 1:15 in the video, we see Oklahoma City Thunder Center Nenad Krstic throw a chair at a Greek opponent.

From the Sportingnews.com…

“According to The Associated Press, the fight happened during the closing moments of the final game of the tournament, when Greek forward Antonis Fotsis had moved toward Serb guard Milos Teodosic after a hard foul. Players from both teams then began shoving, grabbing and punching one another. The AP reported that some spectators also got involved, and the game was called off.

After the scrum had gone on for about a minute, Krstic threw a chair, apparently intended for Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis. But, according to AP, the chair instead hit Greek center Yannis Bouroussis, causing blood to trickle down the side of his head.”

Here’s another video:

To make things worse, Serbian coach Dusan Ivkovic said “The chair fell from [Krstic's] hand?”

Serbian Basketball constantly shows time and time again that they are terrible ambassadors for the game. They need to clean up their act. This isn’t the first time that they’ve showcased themselves as being complete assholes.

In my opinion, Krstic deserves to be suspended indefinitely (or at least for all of FIBA and longer) from international play. He was apparently jailed overnight because of this incident.

This is a disgrace to the game of basketball, FIBA, and the NBA. What the hell was he thinking?
